What size industrial steam humidifier do I need?

In order to calculate what size steam humidifier you require, you will need to know certain things about the area to be humidified. Provided below are two Excel calculation packages for selecting the correct size of industrial steam humidifier. One is for an AHU or in-duct application, and the other is for direct air applications whereby the humidifier is feeding steam directly into the atmosphere of a room.

AHU / In-Duct Humidity Calculations

In order to calculate the size of humidifier you require for an AHU or in-duct application you will need to know:

- the outside temperature & relative humidity or the existing indoor room temperature & relative humidity (degreesC & %rH)
- the indoor humidity level you require (%rH)
- the % of air being recirculated back through the AHU system (%)
- the total air volume of the area being humidified (m3)
- the dimensions of the duct, height & width (mm)
- the velocity of the air through the duct (m/sec)

Direct Air / In-room Humidity Calculations

In order to calculate the size of humidifier you require for a direct-air / in-room application you will need to know:

- the outside temperature & relative humidity or the existing indoor room temperature & relative humidity (degreesC & %rH)
- the indoor humidity level you require (%rH)
- the room dimensions, length, width & height (m)
- the number of air changes or type of ventilation the area being humidifier has
