This great looking DIY install wall-mounted air conditioner offers both cooling and energy efficient heating. This means it's a true climate control system and can be used throughout the year.

This unit has an output of 5.27kW (18,000Btu) of cooling power and 5.86kW of heating power. This makes it suitable for use in rooms up to 48m².

This system comprises of an internal unit that is mounted on the wall of the room to be cooled with screws. It needs to be on an external wall as a hole is drilled through the wall so the inside unit can be connected to the outside unit. The outside unit is mounted directly on the ground.

Unlike some other "DIY" install systems on the internet, this Prem-I-Air range has quick-fit pipe connections that remove any requirement for tooling to join the inside and outside units. A 4m flexible hose is connected to the internal unit, which is fed through an external wall and connected to the outside unit with a simple push fit connector. No copper pipes or special tools are required to make the connection. The only tools you will require are an electric drill, screwdriver, spirit level and pencil.

The internal unit has a 4m length of flexible hose attached to it, which connects to the outside unit.

All features of this air conditioner are controlled with an LCD display remote control.

An on/off timer allows you to programme the unit to turn itself on and turn off in a set period of time.

It has a sleep setting that for night-time use that saves energy. The length of time the compressor runs is limited by an automatic and gradual temperature increase (in cooling mode) or decrease (in heating mode) of 1 degrees from the set temperature after one hour. After two hours another 1 degree alteration occurs. The unit then maintains that temperature consistently.

Oscillating louvres on the air outlets improve air circulation around the room and reduce any draughts from the unit.

As well as cooling this unit provides air filtration with washable air filters on the air inlets and dehumidification to further improve the quality of an atmosphere.

The Prem-I-Air DIY install range uses the latest energy efficient R410a refrigerant gas for improved performance and minimum impact on the environment.

Download the installation manual and operating manual for more detailed info on how to install and use the Prem-I-Air Quick-Fit system.

question How does this work?    question Technical data

A split air conditioner has an internal fan unit fitted in the room to be cooled and an external compressor unit fitted outside the building. Both are connected with pipes, through which refrigerant is passed in a continual loop.

The refrigerant will change its form from a liquid to a gas in different parts of the system. As it reaches the internal fan unit it turns from a liquid into a gas. Whilst doing this its temperature drops rapidly - like when you spray an aerosol can for a long time and it gets cold. This drop in temperature makes parts of the internal fan unit very cold indeed and as air is blown across them, the air becomes chilled and reduces the temperature in the room.

When the refrigerant, now in a gas form, is pumped back around the system and reaches the external unit, a compressor forces the gas back into a liquid state by compressing it. This activity produces lots of heat that is dissipated by a big fan in the external compressor unit outside the building.

So by continually expanding and compressing the refrigerant gas in the air conditioning system the heat is collected from the room and transferred to the outside air.
